Brandon Miller’s socialite wife Candice sued for unpaid rent on New York City condo two months after financier husband’s suicide over $34m debt

The widow of real estate developer and financier Brandon Miller is being sued by a New York landlord over unpaid rent on their luxury apartment following her husband’s suicide.

Mak Acquisitions is demanding that socialite Candice Miller pay $195,000 to cover rent on their 737 Park Ave home for the months of April through August, according to court documents seen by DailyMail.com.

The mother of two moved out of her Upper East Side apartment in August, but her landlord claims she ‘refused to compensate’ [them] for services rendered.’

Rent for the posh apartment cost $47,000 until April, then rose to $49,000 starting in May. The unit has five bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms in 4,382 square feet, according to Zillow.

The lawsuit is the latest in the legal troubles Brandon, 43, has left behind for his family. Court documents show he was nearly $34 million in debt and had just $8,000 in his bank account when he decided to take his own life.

Candice, 42, has filed a petition for surety, which lists four outstanding loans on the property, including a $2 million mortgage from Titan Capital. Titan Capital also recently sued her over missed payments.

In addition to the property debt, Brandon had a substantial unsecured loan of $11.3 million from BMO Bank. He also owed more than $6 million to Donald Jaffe, a lender who had previously financed Miller and his father on various projects. Jaffe is still pursuing legal action to collect the unpaid balance.

Other creditors include American Express and Funding Club, a Brooklyn-based cash advance lender, to whom Brandon owed more than $300,000 and $266,000, respectively.

In a suicide note, the father explained that a last-minute business deal had fallen through and he felt he could no longer get out of it.

The New York Times reported that Brandon also described two life insurance policies that could be used to pay off creditors.

He committed suicide by inhaling exhaust fumes while his wife Candice was touring Europe with their two daughters.

The troubled man waited until his family had left town for a week-long luxury vacation before getting into his car and running the engine until the garage was filled with toxic gasoline.

A wealthy friend arranged for a shocked Candice and her two daughters to fly back to the US on a private jet.

They arrived in time to say their final goodbyes to him before he was taken off life support at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and pronounced dead on July 3, a source with knowledge of the matter said.

Candice moved to Miami Beach with her daughters shortly after her husband’s suicide in July and now lives in a multi-million dollar condo owned by a member of the von Fürstenberg family.

Last year, a foundation with ties to Alexander von Fürstenberg paid $10 million for the luxury three-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom apartment where Miller now lives.

Diane von Fürstenberg’s net worth is estimated at around $300 million, most of which comes from her famous fashion label, which is named after her.

Decades after divorcing her first husband, who came from a German princely family, von Fürstenberg married media tycoon Barry Diller.

The couple, who married in 2001, bought a waterfront plot of land, also in Miami Beach, for a staggering $45 million in April.

It is unclear whether there is a relationship between Miller and the extremely wealthy couple.

Miller is said to be friends with Alison, the wife of Alexander von Fürstenberg, also known as model Ali Kay.
