Several prominent figures in the Mount Kenya area have urged the deposed prime minister, Raila Odinga, to end his weekly protests. They say the economy is suffering because of the protests and they want Raila to put an end to them so the administration can focus on campaign promises.
Edward Muriu, a member of Parliament for Gatanga, expressed concern to the Star on Sunday. He noted that the current Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to enacting crucial reforms that would benefit all Kenyans.
Muriu argued that continuous protests get in the way of progress and that the administration should be given time to fulfill its promises.
Muriu further stressed that the government will not stand for anyone inciting demonstrations for political gain. He emphasized the need of keeping the peace in the country.
Wanjiku Muhia, a member of parliament representing Kipipiri, has backed Muriu’s claims that Raila is trying to use the demonstrations to force a handshake deal. She emphasized President Ruto and Gachagua’s unwavering commitment to improving Kenyans’ standard of living through long-term monetary policy changes.
To address pressing issues like unemployment, poverty, and corruption, Muhia expressed confidence in the government’s ability to do so. She urged Raila to work with the government in a positive way, rather than holding weekly protests.
