When it comes to the security of the President, there is no taking chances. And for this reason, the Presidential Escort Unit Commander is always on high alert. Often, he swings into action and take personal charge of the security.
On Saturday, as President William Ruto toured Mombasa where he launched several development projects, the PEU boss William Oloonkishu Yiampoi was captured on camera taking charge of the President’s security.
A very important member of the President’s entourage, Yiampoi has been in-charge of Ruto’s security since October 2022 when he succeeded long serving Josephat Kirimi Mbuthia.
Always in dark sheds, the 49-year old Yiampoi is a member of the elite GSU Recce Squad. Prior to his appointment as head of presidential security, he had served as head of Ruto’s security when the latter served as Kenya’s Deputy President.
In the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yiampoi has been in the service for almost 30 years. During this time, he has protected former Presidents Daniel Arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta and now Ruto.
