Vanessa Feltz rushed to emergency surgery after ‘doubling down in agony’ and suffering ‘worse pain than childbirth’ as she shares update from her hospital bed

Vanessa Feltz posted a message on Instagram on Monday showing that she was rushed into emergency surgery due to severe pain that was “worse than childbirth.”

The 62-year-old TV presenter told her followers she was left “completely terrified” before doctors discovered she was suffering from a kidney stone.

Vanessa said from her hospital bed: ‘Good morning from the hospital, a bit of a surprise, yesterday I was completely fine, completely fine and I had the [grandchildren] “I came to your place for lunch and I felt completely fine again.”

‘There was absolutely nothing wrong with me and then all of a sudden I got this pain. It was just really strange. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and I’ve given birth to two children naturally and I’ve never had this kind of pain in my life.’

Vanessa, who has daughters Allegra, 38, and Saskia, 35, with ex-husband Michael Kurer, said she is normally a tough guy and battles illnesses, but felt so bad she had to miss her LBC radio show.

He said: ‘I was in so much pain, I couldn’t sit down, I couldn’t lie down, I didn’t know what to do, it was absolutely bewildering.’

Vanessa then went on to detail how she underwent a scan where doctors discovered the kidney stone was 5mm in size and she was then rushed into an operating theatre to have the stone removed.

Alongside the clip she wrote: ‘Wow! Hello from the hospital. 2pm, feeling great. Just finished making lunch and playing with AJ 5 and Cecily almost 2. 3pm I was doubled over in pain. Scan showed a large kidney stone.’

‘OMG! Surprisingly painful. Rushed to the operating room. Thank you so much to my daughter’s nurses, porters, anesthetist and amazing surgeon. Thank you so much’.

This came after Vanessa admitted she found the ‘crushing loneliness’ of being single difficult to deal with following her split from Ben Ofoedu.

In February last year, she split from 51-year-old singer Ben after 16 years, after she found out he had cheated on her.

Since then, the star has been single, but she has been on many dates, most of which seemed unsuccessful.

Writing in her Emphatic In her column, Vanessa candidly admitted that she struggles with loneliness after having a partner for so many years.

She wrote: ‘I have been lucky enough to holiday in Spain with my grandchildren, but after days of fun and laughter it feels bleak to return to an empty house.

“I’m a reluctant single. I’m trying to muster some backbone, but it’s not working for me. I find the contrast between the 24/7 togetherness of family and the crushing loneliness hard to navigate. My condolences go out to anyone else in the same boat.”

During a recent appearance on the Suddenly Single podcast, Vanessa opened up about having a number of “demoralizing” dates lately.

She said: ‘When you’re on a horrible date, where there’s nothing going on – it’s not fun, they’re looking at you and you’re looking at them and then when you get home and walk in the door, it’s really hard… it’s hard not to feel a little bit inferior.

“You don’t feel attractive, you don’t think what you said was funny. You don’t feel wanted.”

Vanessa, who described her last date as “terrible,” has no desire to enter the world of online dating.

She said, ‘I’ve never swiped in my life. I think I’d be in the paper in two or three seconds.’

Vanessa even ventured onto Celebs Go Dating, but unfortunately she didn’t mean The One.

She said of the experience: ‘It was very difficult, but I remained hopeful, a little bit hopeful… if you had said to me, do you think, with your hand on the Bible Vanessa, that they are going to find you your Prince Charming, I probably would have said no.’

The presenter is said to have found a series of social media messages and emails from Ben to other women last year.

WHAT ARE KIDNEY STONES?

Kidney stones are hard lumps that form due to the buildup of waste products in the blood.

They are usually located in the kidney or the ureter, the tube that connects the kidneys to the bladder.

They can be extremely painful and, if left untreated, can lead to kidney infections or kidney failure.

A tenth of Britons and Americans suffer from kidney stones, with people between the ages of 30 and 60 being the most vulnerable.

This is more likely if someone does not drink enough fluids, takes certain medications, or has an underlying condition.

If you have severe pain, a high fever or blood in your urine, contact your GP or 111 immediately.

Once a kidney stone has formed, the body will attempt to excrete it through the urine.

Most are small enough to do this and can be treated at home.

However, larger stones sometimes need to be surgically removed.

About half of all patients will experience kidney stones again within five years.
