‘Promise after promise and corruption galore’ – Narok senator slams Ruto’s 2-year performance

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has sharply criticized President William Ruto’s performance two years into his presidency, calling it a total disaster and describing it as below average.

Ruto, who was inaugurated on September 13, 2022, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, marked his second anniversary in office last Friday.

In a scathing assessment, Olekina condemned the Kenya Kwanza (KK) regime, stating that the past two years have been marked by unending empty promises.

“It’s rather unfortunate that we cannot turn back the hands of time because what has happened in the last two years has been a total disaster taking this country back to the times when poverty reigned. The last two years has totally been promise after promise after promise, nothing tangible,” Olekina said during an interview on a local TV station on Monday morning, September 16, 2024.

Olekina further criticized the administration’s influence over the legislature, claiming that the KK’s control of both Houses of Parliament has allowed drama and corruption to thrive.

“In the legislative arm of government, because of a similar to a super majority that the KK has, has been a charade of passing legislations, you know a piece of comes, has been introduced and within a short time regardless of the spirited fight we have put to try and ensure fiducial responsibility in this country, it is literary drama galore, it is corruption galore and everything that has happened has taken us back almost 20 years,” he said.

Olekina also highlighted the plight of less fortunate Kenyans, including vegetable vendors who had been promised better support by the administration during the campaign period.

“Mama mboga, who really the campaign of KK had attempted to put her up, she is crying. I can tell you if you ask any single legislator today how many text messages they receive and from what time asking for Ksh530, you will be shocked,” Olekina stated.

The senator underscored his criticism of Ruto’s performance by referencing the Gen Z protests of June 2024, which he claimed exposed the administration’s failings and led to significant measures by Ruto, including a cabinet overhaul and austerity measures.

“So the last two years has been a total disaster. The height of this was June 25th when young citizens had enough and they said no enough is enough,” Olekina remarked.
