Mbalula has recently been in the news for slamming a slew of ANC members, including Andile Lungisa, Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan, former secretary general ACe Magashule, and others, and it appears the list is growing, as another senior ANC member has been warned of what is to come.

After his public excoriation of Gordhan while addressing the ANC women’s league conference, former Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom came down on Mbalula like a ton of bricks, accusing him of double standards with his criticism of ministers.

Meanwhile, when addressing the ANC Local Government Interventions workshop this morning, Mbalula has promised to deal decisively with Hanekom over his social media posts, saying the former minister comments on everything on Twitter without following proper procedure.
“At the ANCWL I spoke about a Minister and he went to complain to the President. I had to issue a statement and there is Derek Hanekom who behaves like a freelancer and comments on everything. I will attend to him,” Mbalula said.
Such warnings are not new, but one wonders if Mbalula would follow through on his promises and deal with members he has accused of disrespecting leadership.
In any case, Mbalula was summoned by Magashule a few years ago for expressing his opinions on Twitter despite being a NEC member and having a proper platform to vent his frustrations.

Another interesting dynamic is that Mbalula has been going after Ramaphosa’s huge allies, both Pravin and Hanekom are part of the CR faction, and given that Mbalula is a part of it, one wonders if this will not have ramifications for him, and you would not be far off the mark if you said Mbalula was also creating and consolidating his own faction.
