The Economic Freedom Fighters’s new leader and Member of Parliament Mzwanele Manyi left people talking after his claims about the EFF and load shedding. Manyi claimed that if South Africans listened to the EFF in 2020 when they protested against load shedding, there would be no load shedding today.
“In February 2020, the visionary EFF South Africa marched in the rain to Eskom, protesting against load shedding. If South Africa had listened then, there would be no load shedding today. Don’t allow yourselves to be led by chickens when an eagle is here. Yes, the EFF is the eagle.” Manyi said.
His comments left people talking, especially because he had just joined the fighters a few months ago. People questioned his whereabouts and political stance at the period he is referring to. “Were you not one of those who did not listen?” A social media user responded to him.
However, Manyi indicated that he was part of the EFF protest against load shedding in 2020. He directed people to trace him on a position from the video of the protest that he shared. “Look closely at the left of Floyd. The man with a white golf shirt is yours truly.”
Despite his arguments about the protest, other people told him that real leaders should have come up with solutions to the problem. The reality is that playing the role of an opposition without providing alternative means does not help. We can’t always be victims and play the blaming game.
“Real leaders would share their infallible action plan to restore electricity, in the national interest.” Another user said to Manyi.
