Popular Zimbabwean journalist and human rights activist, Mr Hopewell Chin’ono has narrated his experience at a South African restaurant during his recent visit to the Republic of South Africa.

“I passed through this restaurant for lunch today. It is run by a Zimbabwean manager who set up their first branch in Durban. After setting up Johannesburg, they had a choice of going to Cape Town or Harare to build another one.

They settled for Harare, then the election happened. Now there had to build in Cape Town. But their decision was not based on anything else except one thing, the reality of how the Zimbabwean economy deals with businesses.

Zimbabwe keeps losing investment opportunities because of the misplaced policies and corrupt rule.That is why we have 95% unemployment rate, and the highest inflation in the world.

Running a country is not complex, it is just based on common sense.

Zimbabwe’s most productive period was when it was run by a train driver and amateur boxer known as Roy Welensky. He built Zimbabwe’s main source of energy and the biggest man made dam in the world known as Lake Kariba.

It was built in the 50s, but 70 years later it remains the main source of power for Zimbabwe.
