Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu nation and Monarch, has reportedly lost his ability to talk and has been in the intensive care unit (ICU) at a hospital in KwaZulu-Natal since Tuesday. The 95-year-old founder of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has been in the hospital for back pain treatment, but his health has deteriorated.

Some sources have suggested that Prince Buthelezi be transferred to the Garden Clinic in Empangeni for potentially better treatment. The uncertainty surrounding his condition has also intensified political tensions within the IFP, with some members reportedly attempting to undermine the current leadership and remove President Velenkosini Hlabisa.

However, Prince Buthelezi’s spokesperson, Liezl van der Merwe, has said that he is still in the hospital, but his health has shown signs of improvement. He was initially treated in the ICU, then moved to health care, and is now in a normal ward. Van der Merwe also said that she had spoken to him during her visit and that he had responded well.
