At 52 years, Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya is at the peak of his career in the public service.
This is what he has done for the last a quarter of a century when he joined the powerful Provincial Adminstration.
With the promulgation of the new Constitution in 2010, Natembeya found himself in the good books with former President Uhuru, who appointed him as County Commissioner in 2016. He was posted to Isiolo County before moving to Narok.
Natembeya’s biggest break came in 2018 when he was appointed as the new Rift Valley Regional Coordinator.
His appointment came following the elevation of Wanyama Musiambo to become the deputy head of Public Service. And from there, Natembeya immediately hit the road running.
A key cog in Uhuru’s fight to end banditry and cattle rustling in the North Rift Valley region at the time, Natembeya became one of the most powerful and influential security chiefs in the country.
Known for his deep sense of humor, Natembeya used this skill as the cornerstone for his leadership.

But in 2022, Natembeya suddenly resigned as RC in order to make a huge plunge into the murky world of politics. He joined the race for Trans Nzoia County Governor on a DAP-K party ticket.
In what was his debut in elective politics, Natembeya who holds a Bachelor of Anthropology degree from the University of Nairobi, whitewashed former Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa to succeed Patrick Khaemba as Governor.
Now considered one of the most influential politicians in North Rift, the former adminstrator is the man to watch in Kenya politics.
Will Natembeya dominate Rift Valley region politics in the years to come? Well, time will tell.
