On Wednesday, July 26th, Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka led their supporters in lighting candles and laying flowers to commemorate slain and injured Kenyans who suffered during the anti-government nationwide demonstrations.
The leaders had earlier visited patients nursing gunshot injuries in Mama Lucy and Kenyatta Hospitals.
Azimio women leaders broke into tears as they lit candles in memory of Kenyans who lost their lives during anti-gov’t protests. The event was taking place at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga center.
Among the lawmakers who were seen getting overwhelmed by emotions include; Likoni member of parliament Mishi Mboko, Mombasa woman representative Zamzam Mohamed and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo.
While making her speech earlier during that event, MP Mishi Mboko got emotional as she recounted how harmless Kenyans were painfully shot dead. She condemned police officers for inhumanity, adding that the guns are bought using tax payers money and are meant for protecting Kenyans and not maiming them.
Other places like Kisii, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Mathare also observed the vigil Wednesday where supporters trooped to the streets to show solidarity with those who died and got injured in the anti government protests.
The coalition leaders have condemned the police brutality witnessed during the demonstrations. They have asked the ICC to intervene and hold the security officers involved to account.
