According to President William Ruto, billions of dollars lost during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s last days would be subject to a special probe.
According to the International Monetary Fund, tens of billions of dollars were reportedly spent without the approval of the legislature during Uhuru’s final days in office (IMF).
The Treasury spent around 23 billion Kenyan Shillings without the consent of the legislature.
This money was spent in the months leading up to President William Ruto’s inauguration in July and August of this year.
Unplanned expenditures included Sh 810 million for the State House, Sh 2.2 billion for a military research institute, and Sh 4.5 billion for a maize flour subsidy. Nothing had been approved by the parliament.
According to the Treasury, funds were also allocated for the building of roads and other critical projects despite the fact that the amount had not been approved by parliament.
