Currently, The Chief Justice earns 990,000, should the proposals become effective, Chief Justice will earn 1,327,000 from next month. For the Speakers of the two houses, their current salary is 1,160,000, should the proposals go through then the two speakers will earn 1,210,000. This means that the salary paid to the Chief Justice will now exceed that one being paid to the speakers of the two houses.

This has been faulted by Political analyst Brian Weke. Speaking at a local media house, the analyst wondered why would the Chief Justice earn higher salary than the head of Legislature which is an arm of government just the same way the Judiciary is.

He noted that the two arms of government are the same and perform equal duties hence their heads should earn the same salaries.

“Why should the head of the Legislature earn less than the head of the Judiciary, according to SRC proposals? Does it mean that Judiciary is higher than the Legislature when it comes to checks and balances?” Brian Weke Wondered.91fcd6b645e544a296b47f7e221ade78?quality=uhq&resize=720
