PHOTOS: Light moment as Ruto meets his former primary, nursery school teachers at Kamagut

President William Ruto had a heartwarming reunion with his former primary and nursery school teachers in a rare visit to Kamagut Primary School in Uasin Gishu County on January 8, 2024.

The head of state shared a light moment with the teachers as he reminisced about his days in the institution.

President Ruto started his education at Kamagut Primary School before transferring to Kerotet Primary where he sat for his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE).

After his primary education, he enrolled at Wareng Secondary School in Uasin Gishu County and later Kapsabet High School in Nandi County for his O-level studies before joining the University of Nairobi for his tertiary education.

President Ruto was in Kamagut Primary School to preside over the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of modern classrooms set to be used by Junior and Senior Secondary School learners.

“It was nostalgic going back to my former primary school and meeting my nursery teachers as we laid the foundation stone for the construction of a modern school,” President Ruto wrote on his X account.

The constriction of the new classes as well as the renovation of the current structures are funded by the M-Pesa Foundation.

During the event, President Ruto revealed that the government had recruited 56,000 teachers to enhance quality education in the county. He also disclosed that plans are underway to recruit an additional 20,000 teachers soon.

At the same time, Ruto said the government had set aside Ksh46 billion shillings in the new university funding model and another Ksh5 billion for capitation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
