Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and former vice president and wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka along with other leaders affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance movement have had their security personnel withdrawn.
This action was taken by the government in anticipation of the planned three-day mandamano that had been organized by the Azimio leaders aimed at pressurizing the government to withdraw the finance bill 2023 that had been signed by the president William Ruto into law which the Azimio leader considers as burdensome taxes.
The security personnel withdrawn include 10 police officers in the Azimio la Umoja homesteads in Kisumu, Nairobi, and Siaya. The Azimio la Umoja leader had earlier pitched a plot to harm the Azimio la Umoja leaders during their demonstrations.
Other leaders who have also been affected include NARC leader Martha Karua, and over 40 governors and over 50 members of parliament. In response to the protest, senior government security officials held meetings to come up with ways to end and control the protest.
The meeting held included all 8 regional commanders as well as a similar meeting at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation headquarters. CS Kindiki has also, in a statement said the public rallies in Kenya are not banned as long as they adhere to the law. (FOLLOW FOR MORE NEWS)
