President William Ruto has revealed that he is ready to fund the office of the opposition for the purpose of putting in check the activities of the government.
He said this during an interdenominational church service in Bungoma where he clarified that he has no issue with the opposition carrying out their mandate as long as it is in line with the provisions of law and the constitution.
President Ruto said, “Wale ndugu zangu wa upinzani nataka waendelee na upinzani kulingana na sheria ya Kenya. We have absolutely no problem with the brothers from the opposition. They have a constitutional responsibility to discharge. Na hata nimesema nitawasaidia. Hawa mawaziri sasa tumebadilisha standing orders waende bunge wajibu maswali. Nimesema kama wanataka nitengeneze ofisi ya leader of opposition niko tayari ku-fund na serikali ya Kenya awe anatoa statement kutoka asubuhi mpaka jioni kwenye serikali imekosea, mimi sina problem. (I want my brothers from the opposition to continue with their mandate according to the law… I have decided to help them by allowing cabinet secretaries to go parliament to answer questions from the MPs. I have also said that if they want the office of the leader of opposition I am ready to fund it with the help of the government. He will be there to give statements from morning till evening and pin point mistakes made by the government, I have no problem.”
The president went further to state that he is okay to be criticised where he goes wrong but the only thing he cannot tolerate is communicating issues with violence. That destruction of life and property is unpatriotic, undemocratic, illegal, unconstitutional and against the rule of law.
