Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has reacted through his official twitter page after SRC ignores the president and sticks to increasing salaries for top state officers saying the increases align with international standards.
According to him the president and deputy president have no powers to countermand the commission that fixes salaries.
On Friday, President Ruto directed the SRC to freeze wage increases for State officers arguing it was unfair.
Kenya’s State officers will see an 8% increase in pay from this month and a further 7% from July 2024.
“Commission that fixes salaries and benefits for all GOK employees including the President, his deputy, cabinet and judges. It doesn’t require their concurrence when it adds or reduces their salaries.
For instance if the President and his deputy are philanthropic enough (in the words of Speaker Keneth Marende) they can give the increment to charity. But they have no powers to countermand the commission”. Said Hon. Ahmednasir Abdullahi.
The Treasury has allocated Sh45.2 billion to fund the salary increase.
