“EACC Visit of Oparanya Sending Shivers” What Azimio MCA Said After Ngilu Was Spotted With Mudavadi

Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on August 23, 2023, to answer questions regarding the alleged embezzlement of Sh1.3 billion during his tenure as governor. The EACC raid on his homes in Nairobi and Kakamega sparked a wave of reactions from his political allies and rivals, as well as the public.

Oparanya, who is a key member of the Azimio coalition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, received support from his fellow leaders who accompanied him to the EACC headquarters.

They expressed their confidence in Oparanya’s innocence and accused the EACC of being used as a tool to intimidate and harass opposition leaders ahead of the 2024 presidential election. However, one of the Azimio members of the county assembly (MCA) has reacted after Charity Ngilu, who was spotted meeting with Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi on the same day. Ngilu, who is also a key member of the Azimio coalition, was accused by some of her critics of betraying Raila and Oparanya by holding talks with Mudavadi, who is seen as a rival in the 2024 presidential race.
