Aden Duale Recounts Ruto’s 2020 Remarks After Uhuru Ousted Him as National Assembly Majority Leader

In 2020, The Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, then Garissa Township Member of Parliament, was ousted as the Majority leader in the National Assembly.

In his interview and in his book, ‘For The Record,’ Duale revealed that then President Uhuru Kenyatta told him to chose being the Majority leader or lose the seat owing to his association with them Deputy President and now President William Ruto.

Duale chose the latter and he was replaced with then Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.

Taking to his Twitter account today to recount Ruto’s remarks, ‘My brother Aden Duale, you are a great leader. You have discharged your responsibilities as our party’s first majority leader with style, passion and loyalty. When parliamentary history is written, you will have a chapter,” Duale thanked Ruto for standing with him.

“Three years ago, today, there was nothing to jubilate about. My seven-year tenure as the firebrand, first Majority Leader of the National Assembly under article 108 of the Constitution, came to an abrupt, sad halt.”

“Fueled by betrayal, malice and senseless witch-hunt, my replacement was a culmination of a radical purge within the then ruling party, Jubilee Party. My only mistake? Exercising my democratic right of choosing to stand on the side of Truth and Transparency.”
