Kalonzo Speaks Over Chaos & Loss of Lives Witnessed in Emali & Mlolongo During Azimio Protests

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized police officers who were on duty in Emali Town, Makueni County and Mlolongo in Machakos County on Wednesday July 12, in what he termed as use of excessive force against the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance protestors.

It was reported that one person died in Emali after sustaining gun wounds, while at least three people were shot dead in Mlolongo as the police engaged protestors who were vandalizing the Nairobi Expressway.

Speaking to the media from Wote, Makueni County where he had gone to lead the demos before police lobbed teargas to his convoy, Kalonzo condemned police saying they did not observe human rights and the Constitutional right to picket.

In his remarks, the Ukambani kingpin called upon Kenyans who have photographs and videos of police officer who violated the law to make them public.

“The police decided to use excessive force, and we realized that has been used everywhere today. We cannot be in a country where men and women with arms use them against innocent citizens.”

“We have lost lives in Emali and Mlolongo and that cannot be acceptable. We were clear that individual police officers who use excessive force will be held liable individually and Kenyans have been urged to take stock because that cannot go unpunished.”

“We want to tell our people to remain vigilant in defence of the rule of law and the Constitution, and may be those with instruments of power will see the need to put everything on the table,” said Kalonzo.

Addressing the media at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga maintained that the Azimio protests will continue until President William Ruto listens to them especially on the high cost of living, and proposed ‘punitive’ taxes in the Finance Act 2023.
