A woman has died after her husband drove drunk into a lake.
The incident happened on Friday evening in Arizona, in which 35-year-old Megan Maiorana lost her life.
The car she was in crashed into a lake within the gated Canta Mia community in Goodyear, and her husband of nine years, 35-year-old Anthony Maiorana, was believed to be the one behind the wheel.
Police say he plunged into a concrete culvert before flying about 100 feet into the water. The car eventually sank, but Anthony was able to get out. His lover was not so lucky.
Court paperwork shows that after Anthony was arrested, he told officers that the couple had been at a baseball game, where he had only had “two beers.”
Detectives say they discovered he was driving with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, adding they believe speed also played a role in the crash.

“A dive team responded to the scene and was able to confirm that there was another occupant in the deceased vehicle,” police said in a statement.
Divers later recovered Megan’s body still strapped into her chair, Maricopa County police said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Anthony was hospitalized and then taken into custody at the Maricopa County Jail, the bulletin further revealed.
Witnesses who saw the crash – and its immediate aftermath – told investigators that Anthony first somehow managed to exit the vehicle before it sank.
Once outside, he began frantically calling for his wife, they recalled — before the scale of the situation began to swell.
A 911 call was made and police soon responded to the 55 and older community near Estrella Parkway and Willis Road.
Divers were then deployed to carry out a life-saving operation, but were too late to make a difference.

After the failed rescue, Anthony was hospitalized and questioned by police, investigators said. They added that they subsequently arrested him on several charges.
Police further revealed that Anthony had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.234 – well above the legal limit of 0.08.
Footage from the scene showed crews removing the couple’s car from the lake – with the supply chain manager still strapped into her seat belt.
Court documents allege Anthony had bloodshot eyes and stumbled while getting on a stretcher before being wheeled to the hospital, prompting them to test his blood alcohol level.
Police also wrote that he admitted to drinking two beers, and that the couple had been at a party at the retirement community with his wife shortly before they crashed.

As the car “slid and spun,” officers wrote in his charging documents, Anthony allegedly struck a reinforced concrete culvert, sending the car spinning and into the lake.
A 911 call was made and police soon responded to the 55 and older community near Estrella Parkway and Willis Road.

The impact of the diver was felt on the passenger side of the vehicle, officers said, but did not specify whether Megan died as a result of the crash or from drowning.

These include extreme DUI, manslaughter, reckless driving and several other DUI-related charges. He was subsequently granted a $150,000 bond before being placed under house arrest.
The couple lived just a few miles from where the accident occurred and moved there about three and a half years ago, neighbors said Fox 10 Phoenix.
One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the station that the Marioranas were “outdoorsy” and “adventurous” and “you know, just a young, dynamic couple.”

The neighbor, who reportedly witnessed the crash, recalled the man’s behavior: “He was very distraught at the scene. He was very upset.’
During his house arrest, Anthony will have to undergo regular alcohol tests and checks, police confirmed on Tuesday. He is also not allowed to drive a car.
The couple was married for nine years. The police are still investigating the case.
