Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey likely out until December, vows to ‘attack’ knee rehab

Jalen Ramsey’s first game with the Dolphins won’t be for quite some time.

The cornerback, who injured his left knee during a Thursday practice, underwent a full repair of his meniscus Friday and likely will be out until December, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

Ramsey, 28, was expected to miss at least six to eight weeks with the injury, but his surgery was a full repair, which will keep him off the field for longer, according to Rapoport.

After his procedure, Ramsey gave an update about the successful surgery.

“Surgery went well,” Ramsey tweeted with a praying hands emoji. “To my teammates & fans, thank you for the prayers and support!! I promise I will attack this rehab and be back stronger than ever… this will just part of the greater story down the stretch!

Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that the injury, which took place as Ramsey covered receiver Tyreek Hill, was non-contact and happened before the two bumped into each other on the play.

“What was the most amazing thing about the whole thing was the way Jalen responded,” McDaniel said of Ramsey, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “He spoke to the team [Thursday], and it really moved a lot of people. He first let everybody know how much he appreciated this team, how this team has accepted him, and how he knows that what we’re doing here, in his opinion, is special.”

Miami made a trade with the Rams in the offseason to pick up Ramsey in an effort to bolster the team’s secondary.

A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, Ramsey has been one of the top corners in the NFL since he entered the league in 2016.

Now, without Ramsey in the mix, the Dolphins likely will have to rely on Kader Kohou and 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith to help fill Ramsey’s spot.

Kohou had one interception and 10 passes defended in 15 games last year while Smith had six interceptions over four seasons at the University of South Carolina.
