AERC Hiring Research Consultant

Overall, Job Purpose

The AERC would like to recruit short-term research Consultant who will be responsible for providing technical and intellectual support to the Research Department under the direction of the Director of Research and close collaboration with research managers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the AERC Secretariat team in preparing for the 61st Plenary Sessions of the December 2024 Biannual Research Workshop, including communicating with plenary speakers and high-level panel leads who will be on board as experts and practitioners of Fintech, financial inclusion and economic development.
  • Aid in developing the agenda and reviewing papers that are approved to be presented in the December 2024 Biannual Research Workshop.
  • Support the documentation, logistical organization, and execution of two Technical Workshops on:
    1. Advanced Econometric methods and 
    2. Research Methods, Academic Writing and presentation skills
  • Review finalized research reports of the research department.
  • Contribute significantly to refining research ideas and drafting substantive content for upcoming large projects, particularly in development finance area (e.g. climate, infrastructure, etc.).
  • Provide intellectual contributions and support for external events involving AERC, such as international workshops and conferences.
  • Help translate research findings into policy briefs/recommendations in development finance area.
  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the Director of Research.

Qualification and Experience 

  • A PhD degree in Economics or any related sub-field of economics such a financial economics, development economics, agricultural economics, monetary economics etc.   
  • At least 10 years of working experience.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Published in internationally peer-reviewed journals in the last 5 year
  • Experience in high level panel discussions and other forums on core issues of Africa’s economic development.
  • Experience in teaching at the graduate degree level
  • Proficiency in econometric software (e.g., STATA, R, LIMDEP, EVIEWS, etc.)
  • Good command of both English and French languages will be an added advantage.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in French as well as English is desirable
