Marcee Gray, the mother of Colt Gray, the 14-year-old accused of opening fire at a high school in Georgia, tearfully expressed her sorrow during an interview. “If I could take their place, I would. I would in a heartbeat,” she said on Sunday night.
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith shared that the sequence of phone calls and events leading up to the Apalachee High School shooting is under investigation. Allegations from Colt Gray’s aunt have sparked new inquiries about whether Marcee Gray alerted school officials to an “extreme emergency” roughly 30 minutes before the incident on Wednesday.
Annie Polhamus Brown, Colt’s aunt, confirmed that Marcee Gray contacted a school counsellor on Wednesday morning, instructing them to locate and check on her son immediately. The Washington Post first reported this information, supported by a call log from the family’s shared phone plan. This log indicates a 10-minute call from the mother’s phone to the school beginning at 9:50 a.m., about half an hour before the shooting.

Sheriff Smith mentioned he was unaware of this phone call but emphasised that the investigation is still in its early stages. School district officials have declined to comment.
Colt Gray faces accusations of killing two students and two teachers and injuring nine others during the attack at Apalachee High School on Wednesday. He is charged with four counts of felony murder, with additional charges forthcoming, according to prosecutors.
Colin Gray, Colt’s father, is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) stated that he is accused of “knowingly allowing his son, Colt, to possess a weapon,” as per GBI Director Chris Hosey.
Both father and son appeared in court for the first time on Friday. Neither has entered a plea, and they are scheduled to return to court on 4 December.
