A man from Oregon, accused of killing a nurse who was reported missing shortly after her wedding, made his first court appearance on Monday.
The Beaverton Police Department arrested 27-year-old Jonathan Bryce Schubert. Authorities indicated that Schubert was a neighbour to 32-year-old Melissa Jubane, whose body was discovered days after she was reported missing when she did not show up for her work shift.
Schubert faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree abuse of a corpse. He is currently being held without bail at the Washington County jail due to the murder charge.

During Monday’s hearing, Schubert appeared via video and did not enter a plea, as reported by a local news outlet.
After an extensive investigation, officials concluded that Schubert was involved in Jubane’s disappearance.
Reports indicate Schubert worked as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023. However, he was not employed at Providence St. Vincent, where Jubane worked, according to a statement from Providence.
Beaverton police confirmed on Saturday that Jubane’s remains were found following a three-day search, just two weeks after she married Bryan Llantero from Kalihi, Hawaii.
The Beaverton police expressed their gratitude to community members who assisted in the search and extended condolences to Jubane’s family, friends, and coworkers. They also stated that further details would be withheld to preserve the investigation’s integrity.
Jubane’s family, while declining to comment on the investigation, thanked the detectives, the community, and several organisations for their support and prayers in a statement.
The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) released a statement expressing devastation over Jubane’s death and offered full support to those affected. They held a vigil in her honour on Monday evening.
Schubert’s case is scheduled for a status check on Tuesday morning, with a preliminary probable cause hearing set for 16 September.
Officials urge anyone with information regarding Jubane’s case to contact the Beaverton police at 503-526-2280.
