Team GB claimed their first Olympic medal in dramatic fashion after an Australian diving duo suffered a last-minute disaster.
Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen won bronze in the women’s 3-meter synchronized diving event with a score of 302.28.
It looked like the two would lose the final, as Australia only needed a score of 58.68 to overtake them.
But a misstep from Annabelle Smith saw the Australians score 48.60, meaning Harper and Mew Jensen took home the British team’s first medal of the Games.
It was a historic achievement for the British, who secured Team GB’s first medal in women’s diving in 64 years – and their first medal in the synchronised swimming category.

It gave Team GB their first medal at the Paris Olympics, having not won one on the official opening day since 2004.

It was also the first time since 2004 that Team GB received a medal on the first day after the opening ceremony.
In the tough third round, the duo dropped to sixth place on the scoreboard, after scoring 63.90 points. But with the next dive, they quickly improved their score and scored 71.10, which brought them back to fourth place.
China’s Yani Chang and Yiwen Chen took gold with ease with a consistent performance, finishing first in all five rounds, while American duo Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook took silver.
Scarlett, nicknamed ‘Scar’, is 22 and from London. She started diving at the age of eight and was one of the youngest British athletes in Tokyo.
Last year she teamed up with Harper, 23, from Sheffield.
Together they won the silver and bronze medals at the 2023 and 2024 World Championships respectively.
