A Delta Airlines plane en route to Amsterdam made an emergency landing in New York City after passengers were served “contaminated food” during the flight.
Delta Flight 136, en route from Detroit, Michigan to the Netherlands, was diverted to JFK Airport early this morning after part of the meal on board was discovered to be spoiled, a Delta spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
It is not yet known how many passengers consumed the spoiled food.
But doctors came to collect the plane after landing at JFK to treat passengers and crew who were affected.
A Delta spokesperson told DailyMail.com that their teams are investigating the incident and have apologized to their customers.This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delays caused to their travels.’
The A330 aircraft, carrying 277 passengers, took off from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport just before 11 p.m. Tuesday evening.
The crew decided to divert to New York after discovering that some passengers had been given spoiled food.
Delta says the crew consulted with medical experts who recommended the diversion.
The plane landed safely at JFK around 4 a.m. Wednesday, where passengers and crew were met by doctors.
It is currently unclear how many people were affected by the incident.
A spokesperson told DailyMail.com: ‘Delta Flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted to JFK in New York early on Wednesday morning after it was discovered that part of the meal on board had been spoiled.
Medical teams were on site to meet the aircraft and treat all affected passengers and crew. Delta teams will immediately gather information on how this incident occurred.
“This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delays during their travel.”
