It is said that Ben Affleck sold himself on the message that he was a ‘changed man’, but he failed to keep that up during his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.
The couple, who first dated in the noughties, were initially said to have split due to “public criticism” of their relationship. However, all seemed to be well when the two got back together in 2021.
Still, after Lopez, 55, filed for divorce this week, a source told PageSix: ‘When they weren’t in front of the cameras. They barely spoke to each other during what should have been the happiest time of their lives.
“He convinced her that he was a changed man, and that only lasted a very short time.”
They also alleged that Affleck, who publicly battled his sobriety, “began to desire more privacy and could no longer tolerate Lopez’s fame.

Lopez’s rep declined to respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment. DailyMail.com has not yet received a response from Affleck’s reps.
There’s no denying that Affleck has guided those around him through difficult times in his battle with addiction.
He has been to rehab three times, in 2001, 2017 and 2018. The last time it was his first wife Jennifer Garner who intervened and took him to treatment.
He later shamed the Alias actress by saying he felt trapped in the marriage while trying to stay together for the sake of their children. He coped by drinking a bottle of Scotch and falling asleep on the couch.
After receiving criticism for this, he later made it clear that he in no way blamed her for his alcoholism.
Lopez and Affleck renewed their love for each other in 2021 and married in Las Vegas in July 2022.
But now, after months of rumors that their marriage was on the rocks, Jennifer has filed for divorce.
According to legal documents seen by DailyMail.com, she listed April 26, 2024 as the divorce date.

According to insiders, the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement before they got married.
Ben previously spoke about his desire to keep their relationship ‘private’ in JLo’s documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
The film followed the making of her latest album, This Is Me… Now, which was largely inspired by her romance with Ben.
During one segment of the film, Ben admitted he was “amazed” when he saw her musicians flipping through his personal love letters, which JLo had given them as inspiration for her next album.
The actor kept the correspondence with the singer during his 13-year marriage to Garner, later having the letters and emails bound into a book to give to her when they met again in 2021.
He told the camera: ‘Things that are private, I’ve always felt were sacred and special, because they’re partly private.’
When asked by Variety earlier this year if she and Affleck would ever reunite in a film, Lopez replied, “Maybe in the right movie.”
“I mean, we love working together and being together, so maybe,” she added.
Affleck was last seen with his ex-wife Garner and child Fin on Tuesday morning, returning from taking their eldest child Violet, 18, to college.
Hours later, Lopez filed for divorce. It was her two-year wedding anniversary with him.
