A mother has caused division among Australians after she complained about the cost of groceries at Coles and compared it to Aldi.
Melbourne mother Alondra Gataé expressed her frustration on TikTok, revealing she spent $72 on eight items at Coles.
In her video, Ms. Gataé claims she bought an entire shopping cart full of groceries at Aldi for $100 more.
Social media users had mixed reactions, with some criticizing Ms Gataé. They thought it was an unfair comparison, because she bought brands at Coles that are normally more expensive.
Mrs Gataé showed off the eight items she had bought at Coles, before filling the trolley with her Aldi purchases.
The Coles items include deodorant, egg white pizzas, frozen dessert sticks, cottage cheese, a shower glove, an avocado and two cartons of free-range eggs.
Mrs. Gataé showed both receipts and compared the huge difference.
“Somebody make sense of it,” she said.
In a TikTok titled ‘Come with me to get ripped off at Coles’, Melbourne resident Alondra Gataé showed off the huge price difference between the two supermarkets
“Make it clear that an extra hundred dollars, plus or minus, is the equivalent of a full cart of food for two weeks from Aldi. Coles, you are worthless.”
Some social media users have criticised Ms Gataé, saying she made an unfair comparison.
“If you want to save money, why did you spend $25 on two cartons of eggs?” one of them replied.
Another agreed: ‘You can’t compare if you buy super expensive eggs versus store brand eggs.
‘Even Aldi sells organic eggs. Go buy the nameless eggs and compare.’
‘What nonsense, look at the stuff you bought from Coles… now go buy that stuff somewhere else where it costs the same… stop lying,’ wrote another.
“Buy the SAME items in every store otherwise it’s not a true comparison,” wrote a fourth.
Others were quick to show sympathy for Ms. Gataé.
‘Coles and Woolies are absolute criminal thieves… saying Aldi aren’t as cheap as they used to be… I miss Aldi terribly in Tasmania,’ wrote one person.
“Everyone should stop shopping at Woolworths and Coles for a month,” wrote another.
One of them added: ‘Just don’t shop there.’
Ms Gataé called some of the reactions to the criticism ‘blood-curdlingly crazy’.
“Eight items, no matter what they were from Coles, shouldn’t cost you $72,” she said.
She said the only reason she shops at Coles is to buy things she can’t get at Aldi.
“Otherwise I wouldn’t set foot in that place.”

A Coles spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia they encourage customers to compare prices themselves.

‘We invite our customers to compare prices themselves, but in the case of this video it is unclear whether this is a comparison of similar products.’
