Insomniac has reportedly been hacked by individuals who claim they have information on the ‘WOLVERINE’ game.

The hackers also claim to have info on former & current employees at the studio – including Yuri Lowenthal.

In September, another ransomware group claimed to have hacked Sony, gaining access to confidential information. The groups go by different names, and there’s no indication that the events are related at this point in time. As reported by Bleeping Computer, Sony later confirmed that the information of around 6,800 current and former employees was accessed by hackers, and that it had been the victim of two separate attacks in a four-month period.

Information from the latest alleged hack hasn’t been shared online at the time of writing. It remains to be seen if it was legitimate, and if the personal data of Insomniac workers and partners is in the hands of a ransomware gang after all. No one who is said to be affected by the alleged attack has come forward either, and Sony and Insomniac are yet to issue a public statement on the matter. If the hack did take place, then the full extent of the breach is yet to be realised.

Large companies like Insomniac are often targeted by ransomware gangs. Perhaps one of the most high-profile cases in recent memory is the hack on Rockstar in 2022, which saw footage of Grand Theft Auto 6 shared early, as well as a breach of GTA 5’s source code. Criminal proceedings were brought against the hackers in the UK, and they currently await sentencing.
