“You Okay?” – Wife asked pilot, Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, who died in Elmina plane crash on Guthrie Highway, Malaysia, in last WhatsApp text.


Heikal Aras, 45, was a single father to three children. The second of five siblings previously worked for AirAsia and Vietnam Air but lost his job during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He then worked for Jet Valet Sdn Bhd, the company operating the Beechcraft Premier 1 aircraft.

His father Abdul Azim is veteran journalist who used to work for Utusan Melayu, Suara Rakyat and Mingguan Rakyat.

According to Harian Metro, his father was still shocked over what happened but accepted it as fate.

On Instagram, the mother of his children, Christine Yong posted the screenshot of a message she sent to him after the crash went viral, asking if he was okay. She captioned it with a broken heart emoji with the words: “You never replied.”

Transport Minister Anthony Loke yesterday released the name on the flight manifest of the aircraft which had the tail number N28JV.

As for the road users, one of the victims was a food delivery rider from Sidam, Kedah while the other was a Grab rider from Perlis.
