United Democratic Movement leader, Bantu Holomisa has argued that former president Jacob Zuma must not be bothered anymore by those calling for him to be punished again.

Holomisa said Zuma was released from prison, and he did not let himself out. The United Democratic Movement leader added that it was government which released the former president, hence it is not his fault that he is living his life as a free man.

“It’s true Zuma did not unlock the prison gates to let himself out of jail. The government released him. To prove that prison authorities had an approval from the executive, they were never charged for his ‘illegal’ release. So the ANC government must swim in their stew,” said Bantu Holomisa.

He said this while responding to a report that former president Jacob Zuma is simply being made a pawn in the justice system. He said former Prisons boss, Arthur Fraser had approval to let Zuma go home, and if government had not approved it, this would not have happened.

“He was part of the government. There is no way that he would have opened the gates without submitting a memo for his minister to approve Zuma’s release. Otherwise, he would have been charged. Was he charged for wrong doing in his decision?” Bantu Holomisa said.

Social critics, however, argued that general Bantu Holomisa is these days spending more time defending former president Jacob Zuma. Critics said the United Democratic Movement leader must be careful that voters will not punish him in next year’s elections due to this stance he is taking.

“General there is a feeling that you are now enmeshed into and more supportive of Zuma’s side of politics. You are not spending the same amount of energy on your political party’s affairs, be careful the voters might punish you for this in next year’s elections,” said a social critic.
