She was born in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Her Zulu mother and Xhosa and Sotho father inspired her unique name. Her parents passed away while she was young, leaving her in the care of her Zulu grandmother in Pelham, New York. Amazon’s ‘Underground Railroad’, a historical miniseries based on Coleson Whitehead’s novel of the same name and directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins, introduced the world to Thuto for the first time. The Hollywood Film Critics Association also recognised her as a Breakout Star in Television.
Doja Cat 
Zandile Dlamini, in real life Doja Cat grew up in the Los Angeles area. His dad, Dumisani Dlamini, was a famous Zulu actor who played Crocodile and Mbodla on the TV shows Sarafina and Isibaya. Deborah Sawyer, Zandile’s mother, is a white American Jew. After 15 years of marriage, the rapper’s father relocated to South Africa to be closer to his extended family.
Nomzamo Mbatha
KwaMashu, located around 21 kilometres northwest of Durban, is where Nomzamo Mbatha was born. KwaMashu is located in KwaZulu Natal, a province populated primarily by the Zulu people. Nomzamo first found success in show business after entering an MTV talent competition. She placed second. She continued to appear in South African productions until she landed the role of Mirembe in the Hollywood film Coming 2 America. Thanks to Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes, Nomzamo got to rub elbows with some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
Mbatha-Raw Gugulethu.
The actress has starred in a number of notable TV programmes, including the long-running Doctor Who and Larry Crowne and the cancelled Undercovers and Touch. Gugu Mbatha is the daughter of a South African Zulu doctor and an English nurse named Anna Raw.
