A highly anticipated television series becomes the talk of social media on its first episode due to a combination of factors, including hype, star power, compelling storytelling, production value, engaging marketing, relatable characters, timely relevance, shared viewing experiences, and the intrigue that leaves viewers craving more.
We have seen this in the past weekend. Shaka iLembe has been trending since the first episode aired. The 12-part series is about the making of a great African king from his early childhood through adulthood. Viewers took to Twitter to applauds the cast of Shaka iLembe. One celebrity who couldn’t hold herself back is the executive producer Nomzamo Mbatha. The producers thanked the viewers and expressed the love received as ‘overwhelming’. She continued to say that this has been a ‘brave’ and ‘hard’ journey.
Taking to the comment section, tweeps were quick to comment on the tweet. One tweep said, “This is about the best TV series I have seen, well done. Nomzamo, you keep us glued to the screen whenever you appear on any show. Love you loads.” Another tweep said, “You were born for greatness, continue to shine.”
The South African presenter and entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela also took to Twitter to let tweeps know that the series pulled the biggest numbers on its first episode. He wrote “The new series pulled the biggest numbers of any show on DSTV currently, with its debut episode on Mzansi Magic on June 18th.” He proceeded to say that estimated numbers puts it at over 840k viewers.
