SABC has said that it has cancelled an interview it was supposed to have with the minister of police, Bheki Cele. The interview was slated to be held today at 8pm, but SABC has cancelled it. They revealed this via their official Twitter handle. They wrote, “SABC News has canceled an interview with Police Minister, Bheki Cele, scheduled for tonight at 8pm on Unfiltered”. SABC says that Bheki Cele wants to be interviewed by a particular host, but the editors refused, saying that they cannot be dictated to what to do. Since the minister of police did not agree with their own terms regarding broadcasting, they decided to cancel the interview at the dying minute. They also posted this reason on their official YouTube channel. It is obvious that many people were eager to listen to the interview because of the security position in the country. The minister of police could not agree to be interviewed on the terms chosen by SABC, but chose a specific interviewer or host. SABC is hugely independent, and they refused to abide by Bheki Cele’s terms.
