The presidents home is highly protected and they were turned away by the fully trained security personel.

The disgruntled residents claimed that they wanted the president to address their accommodation woes.

Meanwhile, it was a dream come true for Nokuzola Ngqele.

As she looked at their damaged home, she was worried about how she was going to rebuild it.

Her meagre salary as a cook at a school in her Mamfengwini village in rural Mpeko in Mthatha covered only groceries and clothing for herself and her children.

But she is now the proud owner of a proper home, thanks to the generosity of renowned philanthropist, businessman and football club boss Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi, the chair of PSL outfit Chippa United as well as business entity Chippa Holdings.

Speaking at the official handing over of the house on Friday, Mpengesi said Ngqele and her family reminded him a lot about himself while growing up in Ngqamakhwe some years ago.

“This programme is driven by the fact that I was living in very miserable conditions and came coming from the rural areas where we were the poorest of the poor,” he said.

He said Chippa Holdings and Chippa United identified a destitute family in the province every year and built them a better house.

They have built and donated 20 houses to destitute families since they started with the charitable work.
