He said Paul Mashatile is the boss, he must show leadership by getting rid of his security detail which displayed an undesirable behaviour.

“I don’t know who advices these people. Paul Mashatile must show leadership and apologise; pay reparations to the victims and fire his security detail. He is the boss. Simple,” said the opposition party leader.

Police have confirmed that deputy president Paul Mashatile was not in any of the vehicles involved in the VIP protection incident which took place on the N1 route.

The South African Police Services said investigations will confirm whether the life of Mashatile was in danger at the time of the attack.

What has also been revealed is that the VIP Protection officers who were caught on camera assaulting men in civilian clothes who are said to be members of the South African National Defense Forces, have been served with notices of suspension.

SAPS says the conduct of the members is unacceptable. The officers who have been served with notices of suspension must now make representations on why they should not be suspended. It is said that representation will be considered and outcome will be communicated to them.

Advocate Dali Mpofu’s son, Sizwe Mpofu reacting to this incident said this shows how VIP protection services always act outside the law. He said this shows a resemblance of how the Phala Phala saga of president Cyril Ramaphosa was handled by these officials.

“We must have a serious conversation about how government VIP protection services operate outside the law. This issue unites the Phala Phala scandal and recent events with deputy president Paul Mashatile’s protectors,” said Sizwe Mpofu.

Many are now waiting to see how will this matter be dealt with. South Africans are increasingly losing interest in these government institutions.
