Eswatini ‘s Monarch King Mswati is not happy with Pro-democracy forces who left his country to find refugee in South Africa. As a result he commanded his armed security officers, to trace and kidnap one of the pro-democracy commander Thabo Kunene of the Swaziland International Solidarity Forces(SISF). Mswati is feeling the pressure as pro-democracy groups and South African authorities, wants diplomatic sanctions against eSwatini.
Two police officers from eSwatini invaded the country, proceeded to kidnap Kunene and trafficked him back to eSwatini. Kunene who wants democracy in eSwatini, was hiding in South Africa. He used social media platforms to mobilise and organised protests to shut down eSwatini. Statements made by the King spokesperson Percy Simelane, indicates that the Kingdom of eSwatini denies the allegations of King Mswati being behind the kidnap.
Speaking to eSwatini publication Swaziland News Simelane said “For now, we will play our cards closer to the chest and see how South Africa and the complainants work together to challenge the alleged kidnapping, and how they link the King to the case.We believe we should cross the bridge when we come to it and not jump for it from a distance. We are not aware of any formal paperwork to that effect,”
It is also alleged that a South African traditional healer named Andile Nkomonye or Dr Mkhulu, collaborated with two Senior Superintendent from eSwatini in the alleged kidnapping. Sup Clement Maphila Sihlongonyane and Sup Thabo Hlophe, allegedly invaded the country illegally, to meet the traditional healer, who helped them to trace the pro-democracy commander Thabo Kunene.
In eSwatini King Mswati rules with Executive, Judicial and Legislative powers. All political parties in that country are banned from holding or participating in elections. Those who seek democracy or fight for basic human rights get arrested, and at times they are tortured and killed.
