THE IFP has formed a serious pact with the Democratic Alliance’s in an audacious bid to unseat the ruling ANC.
This was confirmed by DA KZN provincial chairperson, Dean Macpherson, who stated that the party had resolved to accept the IFP’s Umhlathuze Municipality deputy mayor position offer.
This means that the deputy mayor will be given to someone from the DA.
The IFP has a strong following in KZN and this pact has been seen by political commentators as something which will blossom.
In other news, more than 200 youth-owned small businesses have benefitted to the tune of R2.3m in the City of uMhlathuze’s Practical SMME Support Development Programme.
The programme was launched on Friday at the Empangeni Civic Centre after 252 SMMEs from across the city were identified and granted financial support and business resources through grant in aid, youth development and local economic development programmes.
Addressing the media, uMhlathuze Mayor Xolani Ngwezi said he tasked the city’s dedicated officials to visit the remote areas under Amakhosi, including eSikhaleni, eNseleni and Ngwelezana, where young people trade.
“These are the people who would not fool you with useless business proposals because they are selling practically,” said Ngwezi.
“With the little they get, they are able to put food on the table, provide
for themselves, and send their kids to school. So we said, let’s care for the formal and informal businesses, especially the youth-owned,” he said.
Ngwezi further stated that the move was necessitated by the decline in economic growth.
This initiative could bring a glimmer of hope to the city.
