Popular Zimbabwean Journalist and Human Rights activist, Mr Hopewell Chin’ono has lamented after Patriotic Alliance Party won Ward 7 in Johannesburg. He argued that Zimbabweans living in the area should expect more xenophobic attacks, according to him he is of the opinion that PA Party is more concern about Immigrants from Zimbabwe than service delivery.
According to his exact statement on Twitter and it reads;
“The Patriotic Alliance of South Africa whose central theme is Immigration and Illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe in particular has won Ward 7 in Johannesburg taking it from South Africa’s ruling party ANC.
This might explain the high pitched xenophobic attacks from South Africa’s ruling party (ANC) Secretary General, Mbalula Fikile. Sadly Mbalula draws a wrong driving factor for Zimbabweans going to South Africa.
He blamed sanctions for Zimbabwe’s predicaments just to cover up his friends within ZANUPF circle when in fact it is corruption that is the cause of Zimbabwe’s problems.
Another Immigration issue based political party gained 9% from the previous election.
Expect more Xenophobia narratives from the ANC to counter the traction being made by these single issue parties like Patriotic Alliance and Action SA.
Results are as follows;
Ward 7 Ennerdale and Finetown;
PA 47% had 34% in previous election.
ANC 24% while it had 38% in previous election. ActionSA 14%, and had 5% in previous election.Â
EFF 8% but had 6% in previous election.
Sadly all the failures of governance in South Africa are being blamed on illegal immigration.
The populist immigration demagoguery is forcing the ANC to move to the right but tragically using wrong reasons for the problem”.
