The highly anticipated Hollywoodbets Durban July once again brought excitement and glamour to Durban’s Greyville Racecourse, attracting punters, fashion enthusiasts, and socialites alike.
Despite adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and a tornado, the event remained a crowd-puller, with locals joining in the festivities and trying their luck at the races. Law enforcement officers and security ensured a safe and secure environment as promised by the eThekwini Municipality.
The races kicked off with a thrilling and intense competition that had spectators on the edge of their seats. Betula emerged victorious amidst objections, setting the tone for a day filled with excitement.
Staying true to this year’s theme, “Out of this World,” local celebrities and fashion icons showcased their stellar fashion choices, taking inspiration from galaxies and beyond. Notable attendees included Maps Maphalala, Real Housewives star Jojo Robinson and her husband Calvin Robsin, Kgomotso Ndungane and Odwa Ndungane, “Adulting” stars Thembinkosi Mthembu and Luthando Mthembu, Jessica Nkosi, Nadia Jaftha, and Xavier Haupt.
Hollywoodbets Brand Ambassador, Carol Tshabalala, expressed her delight at the event’s success, with a turnout of over 50,000 attendees compared to 30,000 the previous year. She praised Hollywoodbets for their efforts in revitalizing horse racing and reinvigorating the sport’s popularity.
Tshabalala, dressed in a stunning purple mermaid gown designed by Scalo, embraced the otherworldly theme of the event. The intricate beading on her dress represented stars and galaxies, while her fascinator from Anita Ferrera resembled the rings of Saturn.
Reflecting on the atmosphere of the event, Tshabalala emphasized the positive impact on tourism in Durban. She commended the hosts for their fantastic hospitality and expressed her excitement about Durban’s resurgence as a hub for sporting attractions.
When it came to choosing a favorite horse, Tshabalala preferred to go against the crowd, considering the difficulty for favorites to win. She mentioned horses like Rain in Holland, ridden by uSmanga Khumalo, Puerto Manzano, Pacaya, and Winchester Mansion as ones to watch out for.
