The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), operating within the South Africa province, has announced a substantial migration of around 300,000 Zimbabwean residents living in South Africa. This mass movement is in preparation for their active participation in the upcoming national elections scheduled for August 23, 2023, in Zimbabwe. The CCC, dedicated to fostering change, asserts that these individuals are returning to their homeland with the goal of influencing the democratic process.

Bongani okwaGwabalanda Mhlahlandlela Mathe, the Interim Chairperson of CCC’s South Africa province, revealed that the organization’s database has recorded the commitment of these 300,000 individuals to engage actively in the democratic process of Zimbabwe. Mathe emphasized that these returning Zimbabweans have already accomplished their voter registration. Some even completed the registration process at the Beitbridge border crossing or during their vacation visits. The catalyst behind this significant movement is the shared desire for transformative change within the Zimbabwean government. Many Zimbabweans living and working abroad, particularly in South Africa, have encountered numerous challenges and difficulties, leading to a growing sense of disillusionment with the current state of affairs.

Mathe underscored that CCC envisions this surge of returning voters as a driving force behind a government transition. The collective aspiration is rooted in the hope for improved living standards and expanded opportunities within Zimbabwe. Despite the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, led by Julius Malema, offering transportation assistance to these voters, Mathe clarified that some individuals within the group will opt for their own modes of travel. While CCC did not formally collaborate with EFF on the transportation initiative, Mathe indicated that individuals are free to utilize the party’s provided buses if they so choose.
