The Zulu royal family is upset with the Presidential VIP Protection Unit, claiming they were treated disrespectfully and made to feel like enemies. During a recent ceremony, tensions rose as some family members felt the unit acted aggressively towards them.
They say their vehicles were forcefully moved from their palace. A distressed family member explained, “I had to leave because I felt unsafe. They nearly hit me with my own car door when I was following their instructions to drive it out.” The family felt mistreated and compared this treatment to the previous VIP Royal Protection Unit from the police, which they found more respectful.
One senior family member expressed disappointment, saying, “Now we are treated like criminals in our own palace.” The Presidential VIP Protection Unit was assigned to protect King Misuzulu kaZwelithini due to increased threats on his life. However, the alleged mistreatment of the family has raised concerns about their methods. The spokesperson for King Misuzulu, Prince Africa Zulu, hasn’t commented, and the police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, hasn’t addressed the accusations either.
In a photo, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini is seen with his Presidential VIP Protection Unit during an event. The family’s frustration is evident as they reflect on the contrast between their treatment now and how they were treated by the previous protection unit.
