In 2016 he appeared on the British reality show Big Brother. A few weeks after my father died I got messages from a kid in Africa on Facebook. “Please can you help me? I’m looking for Emory Tate” I replied asking why… It turns out the teenager was originally an online scammer pretending to be a girl and trying to get money from Westerners. My father’s logic was that this wasn’t a scam, it was a job, and a very hard one. Imagine how many THOUSAND emails you must send to even get a reply. When the kid emailed my dad, my dad gave him a single chance to be honest and say who he really was. The kid was from Ghana and worked in a plastics factory for 75usd a month My dad started teaching him chess online and giving him 200 dollars a month so he could focus on school
Then his Emory Tate died. And the kid was looking for him. That’s when he messaged me. This was almost 8 years ago. I put Sam (his name) through school. He now lives in Johannesburg
