The ANC is working hard to reclaim it’s former glory in KwaZulu Natal.

That is according to the party’s secretary general Fikile Mbalula who told the media that they are gearing up for next year’s elections.

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has seemingly taken most of the support in KZN ahead of the polls.

Meanwhile, the IFP has refuted allegations that it attempted to register non-residents to vote in the upcoming by-elections in Ward 13, scheduled to take place next month.

This after ANC Musa Dladla Regional Secretary Nathi Xulu said the IFP was caught redhanded in the act during the weekend’s voter registration.

Ward 13 became vacant following the resignation of ANC Ward 13 Councillor Londo Ndlovu last month. “Large groups have been stopped in their tracks at Mkhobosa, Mabuyeni, Mpembeni and Ndesheni voting stations,” said Xulu.

It was discovered that these non-residents are from various other wards and municipalities such as Nongoma, Mthonjaneni, and Nkandla.

Xulu further alleged that these IFP members also voted at last month’s by-election held in Mthonjaneni’s Ward 6.

“We call on the IEC to be vigilant and ensure these elections are just and fair. The ANC condemns the IFP’s desperation to win these elections fraudulently,” he said.

IFP King Cetshwayo District Secretary Tobias Gumede said it was disheartening to witness the propagation of baseless allegations and unfounded fears.

“These allegations are not only devoid of truth, but also reflect a clear apprehension regarding the overwhelming support the IFP is receiving from the people of Ward 13 in uMhlathuze,” he said.

Gumede further explained that the ANC’s unease is the result of their realisation that Ward 13 residents have unequivocally demonstrated their strong support for the IFP.
