Deputy President Paul Mashatile has recently been in the spotlight recently, his protection services members did not do him any good when they were filmed assaulting civilians in a road rage, moreover, his comments that there was an alleged plot to oust him from office did not seem to help either, but the latest allegations are certainly going to have a significant dent on his credibility.

News24 has reported this morning that Mashatile lives in a sprawling mansion which is located in Waterfall City, Midrand. The mansion’s value is estimated at whopping R37-million.
According to the ownership information, the deputy president does not even own it, as his son and as well as his son-in-law are the only directors of the company that owns the property.

Another intriguing fact is that his son-in-law does business with the state, and he has even received a Gauteng government housing loan.
Although many ANC comrades have previously been found to be living beyond their means, this development is extremely concerning because Mashatile is the next in line to become South Africa’s president, assuming internal political dynamics favour him.
As a result, as South Africans, we must brace ourselves for such an eventuality, and to be quite honest, it appears that the deputy president enjoys living a life of excess.

What is even more concerning in this development is that such a senior political figure in our country could live in such an expensive property without worrying if it jeopardised his own political ambitions.
In sense, this demonstrates how disconnected from reality politicians have become, and in a society where more than 62 percent of young people are unemployed, it’s really sad that resources that could help alleviate poverty are diverted to other things.

When president Cyril Ramaphosa came into power, he promised to conduct lifestyle audits of government employees, particularly ministers, but it has now taken a news publication to uncover that a whole deputy president lives in a house that is far more expensive than he could afford, which in a sense makes a mockery of the president’s promise.
