The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 election, Mr Peter Obi, yesterday, made an emotional call to members of the ‘Obidient family’ and the generality of his supporters not to give up over Wednesday’s ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, what upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu.

Obi, who has signalled his intention to appeal the PEPC verdict at the Supreme Court, appealed to all those who share his vision of the possibility of a new Nigeria to remain focused because the dream remains alive and is only deferred. He spoke in a message to the Obidient family and his numerous Supporters at home and in the diaspora on Saturday.

The presidential candidate noted that most of them must be feeling forlorn and disheartened but said this was not the time to despair.

Obi said: “Understandably, there has been a note of general disappointment within our fold and indeed the general population of Nigerians who hoped that the outcome of the February 25th presidential election would usher in a new and different Nigeria of our dreams. That dream has only been deferred for now but remains alive for all times.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Murray-Bruce noted that once elections have been held and a winner is announced, Nigerians must follow the Jonathan doctrine and accept the people’s verdict in the interest of democracy and the nation. According to him, our elections don’t have to end in the courts, but now that we have found ourselves in this position, and the courts have spoken, let us put national interest above self-interest, accept the verdict, and move on so the nation can advance.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the duly elected and undisputed President of Nigeria and this judgment should settle all questions and erase all doubts. I commend the judges of the Presidential Election Petition Court for doing a challenging job exceptionally well. It was democracy that won. So, I commend both the President and his challengers.

“Coincidentally, this verdict is coming as the President marks a hundred days in office, days that have been eventful, effective and decisive. And now, without this unnecessary uncertainty hanging over his head, we can expect even better days,” he wrote.

Friends and family members of the late founder of Fountain of Life Church (FOLC) in Lagos, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, bade farewell to the preacher as he was laid to rest on Saturday.

In his sermon, Bishop David Abioye of the Living Faith Church, Lagos, described the late preacher as a man of strong character who started and ended well in the heavenly race.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Yewande Jacob, a member of the church, said that the congregants knew that their pastor had gone to heaven, which was the reason that they celebrated instead of mourning him.

Jacob described the late preacher as a mentor, teacher, and counsellor who taught younger ones how to relate to the opposite sex without compromising Christian values as singles.

She said that as a philanthropist, the pastor aided many families both within and outside the church, including many indigent students.

The Federal Government has denied serving cats as part of meals for inmates of its custodial centres across the country.

Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service NCoS disclosed this in a statement issued Saturday in Abuja and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Umar Abubakar, an Assistant Controller of Corrections.

Nababa said his attention had been drawn to a report in a section of the media alleging that the Command substitutes cat meat for beef in its custodial centres.

He said the report was not only malicious but untrue and most unfortunate.

“At best, it exposes the naivety of the author about the processes involved in food supply to inmates.

“For the avoidance of doubt, inmates’ ration is awarded to certified vendors who supply raw foodstuff to designated custodial centres.
