In 2017, she officially joined elective politics and won the Gilgil MP seat on a Jubilee Party ticket. It marked the political birth of an impressive journey so far for her.

She was easily reelected for a second term term in 2022. This is a third overall term for her in Parliament. This makes her one of the longest serving female MPs in the country.

By playing her cards well in the run up to the 2022 poll, Wangari waited until late before making a bold move to ditch the then President Uhuru Kenyatta Jubilee Party for UDA which is led by Uhuru’s successor, William Ruto.

At the time of the election, Rift Valley region had been painted in UDA’s yellow colors. And Wangari had to pounce on that opportunity to get an easy ride to Parliament. And her smart political game plan paid off.

In the National Assembly, the Gilgil lawmaker is a member of the Speaker’s Panel. This shows her growing influence in the murky world of politics. She is also one of the most active female legislators on the floor of the August House.

In the Rift Valley region where the legislator is becoming a dominant force going forward, Wangari is one of the women to watch.

As she continues shattering the proverbial glass ceiling, a lot could be on the way for the former Nominated Senator.
