Sirisia MP John Waluke has had a rollercoaster political career. From being a politicians bodyguard to winning a seat to Parliament to being jailed, the former Kenya Army soldier has seen it all.

After leaving the Kenya Defence Forces, Waluke went on to work for the then Sirisia MP Moses Wetangula as his bodyguard. It there that he honed his political skills which would serve him better in future.

In 2007, he challenged Wetangula for the Sirisia MP seat but lost. But luck would knock at his door in 2013 when he successfully ran for the seat on an ODM party ticket.

At the time, Wetangula had opted to run for Bungoma senator position on a Ford Kenya party ticket.

In 2017, the former soldier was easily re-elected for a second term in office on a Jubilee Party ticket. There, he became a key point man of former President Uhuru Kenyatta in Western Kenya region.

But in 2020, things turned south for the lawmaker when he was jailed for 67 years over corruption. At the time, he had allied himself with the then Deputy President William Ruto.

However, in a tactical move, Waluke decided to decamp from the Ruto axis and rejoined Uhuru in the run up to the 2022 general election. He was easily re-elected for a third straight term in office. But soon afterwards, he found himself behind bars once again.

It was until November 2022 that he secured his freedom on a Ksh. 10 million cash bail. And now, he has once again gravitated to the Ruto axis.

Having sern it all during his time in politics, Waluke has proved that he is a very strong character. If he plays his cards well, the former soldier is the man to watch in politics. Now that he is no longer a pushover in the game, the battle-hardened soldier is the man to watch.
