Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has declared that he will not wear a suit until Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, is inaugurated as the President of Kenya.

Sifuna stated that he would instead dress in what he referred to as “official clothing for demonstrations” or “mavazi rasmi ya maandamano.” He mentioned that he already possessed a pair of shoes suitable for such protests, which he was wearing at that moment. He specified that the shoes were a gift from the youth.

“Starting from today, I will no longer wear suits… The next time we wear suits is when we hear Baba (referring to Raila Odinga) saying, ‘I, Raila Amollo Odinga, swear that I will reduce the price of maize flour to one shilling,'” he said.

Senator Edwin Sifuna made his remarks during the Azimio rally held at Kamukunji Grounds on Tuesday.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party, has been an unsuccessful presidential candidate in five elections: 1997, 2002, 2013, 2017, and 2022.

Odinga maintains that he was the rightful winner of the 2022 elections but believes he was a victim of electoral fraud. It remains uncertain whether he will run for the presidency in 2027.

During the rally, Senator Sifuna requested the supporters present to convey a message on his behalf, asking Raila Odinga not to assign him the task of engaging with Kenya Kwanza leaders. He humorously referred to them as “slow people.”

Sifuna, along with other leaders, called for demonstrations to protest against the high cost of living experienced by the citizens.
